For Children

1) Discussion with parents or carers:
  1. You may just want to spend time talking about the problems you are experiencing with your child.
  2. Alternatively, this discussion maybe a part of your child's individual assessment. In the latter case I find that it is useful to spend a short while with you before I meet the child in order to find out some details of the child's educational problems as well as his/her medical and family history. I would then like to talk to you in greater detail after the individual assessment.

2) An individual assessment of the child:
  • A full psychological assessment of a child can take 2 hours but, depending on the child's difficulties, it may not be necessary to include all aspects of the assessment.
  • A full assessment can include:
    • an IQ test
    • a word reading test
    • a reading comprehension test
    • a spelling test
    • writing prose
    • a basic number skills test
    • an auditory discrimination test
    • tests that look at visual perception

3) A report in English:
  • This includes relevant details of the child's educational, medical and family history. The individual assessment is discussed and conclusions drawn about the child's difficulties. Brief recommendations are included.
  • This report can be translated into Spanish if you require this service.
  • More specific recommendations can be provided, possibly including ideas and activities that you can use with your child.

4) If your child is diagnosed as Dyslexic and will be taking UK examinations, a covering letter to attach to the report can be written for you, or the school, to forward to the appropriate UK examination board(s).

5) If you are finding difficulty discussing your child's difficulties in school, and ways of working with him, this service is offered in English or Spanish. The results of the assessment can also be discussed.

6) Dyslexia teaching, usually in 1 hour sessions and generally using the 'Reading Through Spelling' approach, is available.
